The Benefits of Massage: Muscular Dystrophy

Massage therapy has been reported to ease a wide range of Muscular Dystrophy’s symptoms including:
- Relieving muscle pain
- Relaxing tight or contracted muscles
- Increasing circulation in a deprived area
- Restoring some range of motion
- Reducing spasms

By using my knowledge from working as a Neuro-specialist Physiotherapist, as well as utilising my handling and massage skills; I ensure each treatment is tailored to suit the client's needs.

Those with MD can vary with their symptoms and mobility, for example those mobile but relying on high tone to walk would not benefit from over stretching. For those who are less mobile, the benefits of increasing circulation, maintaining range and reducing spasms can have a huge impact on quality of life. Having your body moved for you can also have a profound effect of reducing stiffness and wellbeing.

Massage increases your body's production of serotonin which is a natural painkiller and in addition it can promote circulation and boosts relaxation. Both these aspects can reduce anxiety and boost mood.
